xxxxxxxxsome of Beryl's Raku work

Beryl spent most of her early life in the Melbourne area and moved to the Gold Coast in 1978. Painting and led lighting were the first art forms she got involved with, but in 1995 Beryl joined the Gold Coast Potters Club where she won the emerging artist award at their annual exhibition. From the beginning, her interest in pottery centered around Raku, a method invented in Japan more than 500 years ago and used to create bowls for the tea ceremony. Beryl and her husband Ed, an artist in his own rite, built their own studio and kiln and developed their own glazes, focusing on brown, earthy and bronze glazes. Beryl particularly likes sculptural work and her love of natural forms is captured in them in most unusual ways! We are so pleased to have her work at Mountain Dreams, as we "discovered" her just as she and Ed were moving to Tasmania.
