Hillel moved from Japan to Australia on the first of April, 2005 and Tamborine Mountain has been his home from the beginning. He's been a teacher, designer of learning spaces and writer in previous lives and now is focusing (as much as he's able) on ceramics and writing. He's written a children's book about his cat, who dreams to fly with her bird friends. It's called "Kumo's Dream" and is illustrated by Maki. They have also co-authored 3 books of paintings and poems which are available in select galleries in Australia and from our on-line shop directly.

Hillel writes: "I remember that many years ago in one of those previous lives I took a lot of photos and even studied photography, but then thought - - no, there's no photo that is as beautiful as real life, real nature - - and I gave it up. I've had similar feelings since taking up ceramics and noticing that the most beautiful art is right there in nature. Most of my ceramic work is inspired by such noticings. Perhaps one day I'll give it up too and just enjoy the raw beauty of nature."
